“An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind…” – Mahatma Gandhi
Revenge doesn’t float my boat. In fact, it never has. I am a true believer of karma and I firmly believe I have no reason to speed up the process.
I think revenge causes just as much harm as the act that made you want to seek revenge in the first place.
I know there are so many out there with the attitude – an eye for an eye – but I am just not wired that way. I very much agree with Gandhi and the quote above.
Well technically in maths theory, while two negatives make a positive, in day to day life, this could not be more further than the truth. If you fight poison with poison, you are no better than the person who threw it first. Harsh but true. Why lower yourself to their level.
While I understand I am speaking generally here, and I know there will be an exception to the rule, there always is, somewhere, but overall I feel like we need to be pushing out goodness and positivity into the world. There is far too much nastiness in it already. As the saying goes ‘kill them with kindness’ – I’d get far more satisfaction knowing I pissed someone off because my positivity and kindness annoyed them rather than lowering myself to their standard of behaviour and was an asshole back. I also understand that sometimes it is far easier to go out and seek revenge but I urge you not to. In the long run, you won’t gain anything from it – maybe instant gratification – but overall, it won’t be what you need.
Smile, make them wonder what you are up to instead.
