BDSM Diaries: What is Erotic Electrostimulation? Tips to play safe!

Please note: I am not a medical professional. These are my personal thoughts and experiences.  Please do not use electrical stimulation devices above the waist. If you have a pacemaker or have any health problems you feel may be affected by the use of an estim device, do not use one and please contact a medical professional for advice first.

So what actually is Erotic Electrostimulation?

Erotic Electrostimulation or E-Stim or Electrosex as it is also known as is the use of specially designed machines/devices that supply a mild electrical current to the body for sexual pleasure.

That sentence does sound kinda scary if you are a complete newbie or wanting to try it out for the first time but the most important word in that entire sentence is mild.  In all honesty, if you have used a tens machine or experienced the physio using electrical therapy on you – you will already have an idea of what the sensations from Electrostimulation are like.

What you weren’t told was these sensations feel absolutely unreal on your genitals! Electric play can be a real game-changer in bed and bring your sex life to new stimulating, electrifying levels. Yeah, I went there – how could I not! Shocking behavior…. Ok, Ok… I’ll stop, for now 😉 However, that being said, those kinds of machines are most definitely not the kind you use for Estim.

So please do not try attaching the tens machine to your bits and pieces!

There are many e-stim suppliers out there. We were very lucky to team up with the very awesome ElectraStim. Huge shoutout to them because not only are they a bloody awesome company – I have found them to be full of info about their products and always happy to advise and reach out with tips and tricks for use! So from a customer service point of view, they have been superstars!

When our products arrived, we dashed straight in and tested the pinwheel and the Jack Socket without really giving the actual Flick Duo unit much thought. I will be reviewing the ElectraStim Flick, Pinwheel and Jack Socket at a later date so check back 😉 The unit has actually turned out to be as much as fun as the attachments have – something I must admit, I wasn’t expecting.

As well as those two products, there actually are loads of attachments you can get from cock loops to cock rings to kink implements such as paddles and clamps and even insertables specially designed for g-spot and p-spot stimulation. See, loads!

And if you are after a light show, well then look no further than a Neon Wand.

All goes quiet and next thing the Neon Wand buzzed into life near my ears. My heart starts to pump, he reduces the power and the noise starts to move slowly in the direction of my lower body until it finally stops and I’m greeted with the softest of kisses on the inside of my legs, which slowly move inwards. I am concentrating on the pleasure each stroke of his tongue creates, I don’t realise he has powered up the wand again until…..”

You will have to click through to see how that night went. 😉 The Neon Wand is so much fun – gives a fantastic light show as well as sensations that can be as mean or as tame as you like.

Tips for Safe Play

  1. Please use a device suitable for erotic electrostimulation. These devices will have a one-press button shut off as well as graduated intensity increase. I went to google to see what popped up and some guy in the states actually killed his wife with a homemade set so please don’t be that guy!!
  2. Be safe and play below the waist only. Electric devices have the ability to transfer mild current to the heart if used in that area. They will be mild but it is best not to take a chance. Anyone with a pacemaker etc shouldn’t use estim either. Basically, if you think there might be a potential issue using a device, then do not use one until you have checked with a medical practitioner.
  3. Use a safe word and do not use under the influence of alcohol or drugs. I really don’t need to elaborate on these, do I? However, as I mentioned in my Wax Play post – I would advise using Stop as a safe word. Like I said pineapple doesn’t seem to have the same effect, does it?
  4. Water-based lubes are the way to go. If you decided to get a silicone e-stim attachment, it is best to already be practicing better methods as silicone-based lubed damage toys!
  5. Take to slow, It’s not a race. Test all the waters out and progress slowly. Don’t be afraid to stop or say no. It shouldn’t hurt (well maybe sometimes it might, given from a kink perspective 😀 ), most will find it pleasurable. Regardless – slow down, enjoy and learn what works for you.

So What does Erotic Electrostimulation actually feel like?

I am actually going to tell you all about the Flick from a user point of view – both solo and partnered in another post (which I will link here when it goes live). Right now I want to give you an idea about the sensations you can experience from Electrostim.

On lower intensities, e-stim can feel like pins and needles. It feels like it happens in waves. Even on a static setting, I feel like a constant wave of intensity happens. For me, I haven’t found my muscles twitch or spasm during just the static setting. It is relaxing, pleasurable and so far, writing this I have been able to take the setting to 20 (out of 25) on each side of my vulva.

On higher settings, the pain levels aren’t what I would describe as unbearable. I actually quite enjoy the sensations provided by the Flick and if my OH was hoping this would be a torture device – he has failed from the Flick point of view. However, fear not all you sadists out there reading this. I did say I had more posts coming. There is something for everyone I find when it comes to electro sex play.

I will tell you all about how I got on playing solo as well as how we enjoy using it during partnered sex in the next post… As a tease, we are both loving electrosex!

I just saw this pop up on twitter. We own the Flick and it is a great toy. Can’t wait to read more. Actually we managed to use it as a torture device 😉

One thing though. As far as I understand (and read the manual) water-based lube is conductive as well and in fact is supposed to be conductive, they even put some in their flick starter pack.

Whoops – thank you 🙂 I updated my post! I thought oil based lubes were bad as they wouldn’t distribute the current correctly! I didn’t get any sachets with my Flick set though. Either way, I reread that bit and you were right, it didn’t make sense. Thank you for pointing that out <3 x

Another superb post from one of my all-time favourite bloggers. Safety is paramount with e-stim play, only use equipment from reputable sources and only use made for play boxes that have a bi-phasic output.

I am enjoying reading about you dipping your toes into the wonderful world of e-stim. Keep those sparks flying. xx

Some excellent safety rules mentioned here. Electricity can be fun, but must be done safely.

I was so curious about this for so long and I’m so happy I got to try it out twice in the three weeks I got to enjoy kinky events before this lockdown! The way you describe e-stim is exactly what it feels like for me. Do your muscles twitch or spasm on a higher setting? That’s the thing I dislike a lot with this, but then it’s also kind of fun. For me, my neck or behind the ears is rather sensitive, but I suppose that’s not the typical place you’d use it lol

They do when it is on patterned settings but I’m not so keen on patterns. The highest I have tried solo is 20 (outta 25) but partnered it is less… I love it for solo wanks however partnered sex is a game changer. I’ll explain more in next post though 😉 x

I saw this post pop up and we do a lot of electro play so was interested in your thoughts. I actually prefer the constant to the flick bit I think that’s just me. The way I like it best is the pads on my bum cheeks and I do get the twitching mentioned above sometimes when it reaches rue top levels. We love it and for us, it can be a good alternative to spanking as it’s totally silent so we can do it with others in the house. I thought this post was really helpful to provide information and safety tips about it and look forward to reading your next posts about how you found playing with it and what you tried

This is so fun! What a great share! We had a Violet wand years and I loved it but we only got to play with it a few times and it got broken in a move and we just haven’t replaced it yet. This makes me wanna do so pronto though lol

I’ve done this a couple of times. It’s not a sensation I enjoyed, but this is an amazing article for those who have never tried. It answers all the questions most people would have before starting and sets them up for a positive experience.
