I don’t think I could even word how nervous I was before I attended Eroticon. If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll surely have seen one of many tweets expressing my anxiety about it all. What you wouldn’t have seen were all thoughts that ran through my head and all the many excuses I thought about giving if I chickened out! The very word Eroticon as I scrolled through my feed witnessing all the chitter chatter of excitement made me feel nauseous and made my heart race.
And you may wonder why the bloody hell I ended up actually going if I felt this way while still sitting on Irish soil? Well, I’ll tell you why – I felt I had to because wonderful companies helped me by contributing to my flight costs and sponsoring my ticket!
AND AM I SO GLAD YOU DID!!!!! <3 I shall be forever grateful, more about thosein another post which I shall link here when it goes live.
So how did my Eroticon go?
Friday, we flew into Stansted. It was my first time going through the airport and found it easy to navigate through and swiftly found our way around and off we were on the Stansted Express to Liverpool Street. Now here is where the experience turned a little erm, scary! We had to get the tube to Kings Cross from here which should have been relatively easy but given I had never been on one let alone tried to suss a map out, I hadn’t a clue. Eventually, something clicked and I figured that the next tube should get me where I needed to be. My OH wasn’t so convinced and asked the guy beside us. In the meantime, I hopped on thinking he heard me and the doors shut. And once they do, well they don’t bloody open again, no matter how many times you press the button and believe me I tried! A little wave from my OH and off I darted. We eventually found each other after many fucks were let off.
We dropped off our luggage at the hotel and ended up going to snoop around London.
Soon enough it was time for the Meet and Greet. I had previously arranged to meet the very lovely Floss and her OH, Ben in Kings Cross Square as they too stayed up here and oddly my nerves disappeared. We tubed to Camden and headed straight to the Holiday Inn for pre-meet and greet drinks, where I met Sub Bee and her OH. Myself and Bee chatted like we had known each other since forever and I even got her in trouble once or twice ( Sowwwie Bee<3 ). Then someone joined us who I didn’t know and started chatting to Bee… I thought I recognised the voice but it was slightly distant so I couldn’t tune in fully, once I did the nerves bubbled away and I had a full-on fangirl moment – it was Girl on the Net! Next to join us was Marie Rebelle and her husband, LuvBunny from Down the Bunny Rabbit Hole(who I thought wasn’t attending so that was a lovely surpise) Amy from Coffee and Kink and her partner and Bianca from Helen’s toybox.
We were all just chatting away like we had known each other since forever and I can’t even begin to explain how relaxed I was. Yeahhh the few whiskeys helped but honestly, I felt like me. I felt like I belonged. These were my people and there was finally a space for me to be well, to be me. I know I really sound corny and yes, when I read other folks say this last year, I thought the same but honestly, you can’t buy this feeling, nor you don’t expect either… it kinda just creeps up on you.
Once we got our badges we were free to mingle amongst all the other attendees – I will admit to this part of the weekend scaring me the most before we attended… Like who would I talk to? Would they know who I am? What would I even say? And then that literally melted away and the chats flew!
That night I got to meet BibulousOne, 19 Syllables, Eye, Posy Churchgate, Petra Pan, Candy Snatch, Petticoat Diva, Kayla Lords, John BrownStone, Hy, Mark from Sheets of San Francisco and ended up bending the ear off Cara telling how beautiful she is! Our night ended chilling out with Julie from Master’s Pleasing Bitch, her partner, Sub Bee and her partner and just my OH and I – all chilled, a night full of many giggles and lots of whiskeys and we left with excitement for tomorrow.
After a quick tube ride back to Kings Cross, we ended up getting a kebab and it was time for bed!
Saturday and Sunday posts to follow 🙂
